HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Roots and Influences
Born and raised in Lagos, Nigeria, in areas rich in music and culture like Ajegunle and Oshodi/Isolo, and later in Port Harcourt’s Oyigbo, Obbynice was surrounded by music and melodies. His early love for music can be traced back to the dancehall vibes of Ajegunle, and artists like 9ice and Christopher Martin have significantly shaped his musical journey.
However, one of the most profound influences in his life was closer to home — his mother, an accomplished musician, performer, and songwriter. Growing up, her music, performances, and passion for music became the backdrop of Obbynice’s life, guiding him and igniting an intense passion for music.
Journey and Evolution
At just 15, Obbynice was already writing his own music, making jams that reflected his vibrant environment. Recognising the potential to spread his wings, he ventured to South Africa in 2012, immersing himself in its dynamic music scene in Johannesburg.
With 25 years of experience in the music industry across Nigeria and South Africa, Obbynice has graced the world with many tracks, delving into various genres, from Afrobeats and Dancehall to Gqom and Amapiano.
